The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, joined the Mampong Traditional Council and the bereaved family of the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II, known in private life as Mr. Saint Oswald Gyimah-Kessie, at his solemn Doteyie (traditional burial rites). The ceremony was held at the Amaniampong Silver Stool Palace in Mampong.
The Doteyie, a rich and sacred Akan tradition reserved for royals, marked the ceremonial farewell of the occupant of the Silver Stool.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, led a delegation to honour the memory of the former Registrar, who served KNUST with distinction before ascending the Silver Stool as Mamponghene.
She was accompanied by the Registrar, Mr. Andrews Kwasi Boateng, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor David Asamoah, and Finance Officer, Dr. Charles Nsiah.
Following them were the Provosts of the various Colleges, including Professors Christian Agyare, Kwabena Biritwum Nyarko and Dadson Awunyo-Vitor, and the Director of the Institute of Distance Learning (IDL), Professor Anthony Andrews.
Also present were Dr. Samuel Nikoi, University Librarian, and Rev. Joseph Williams Acheampong, Protestant Chaplain.
Among the many registrars who came to pay their respects were Rev. Elvis Twum-Barimah, Mr. Anthony Kuufare, and Mr. Isaac Nyamekye Yamoah.
KNUST had earlier participated in the One-Week Observation on May 12, 2025, where the University formally conveyed its condolences and joined the Mampong community in the early stages of mourning.
